Sagging Jawline & Jowls

A face lift repositions the deeper tissue that has descended into jowls and removes the surplus skin, which is what actually restores a jawline.

What to expect

From consultation to final result

The stages below are typical for this procedure. Your own timeline is confirmed at the consultation.

Tap to flip

The first week

What is normal

Swelling and bruising are normal in the first week. The face and neck feel tight. Numbness around the ears and cheeks is common for most patients, and it fades over weeks to months. Sutures are removed in stages during the first week or two.

Weeks two to six

Getting back to normal

Most patients are back at desk work in about two weeks, once the bruising has faded enough to be covered. No bending, lifting or exercise for two weeks, then a gradual return over the following two.

The result

How long it lasts

A face lift typically holds for ten years or more, and some of its effect lasts for good, because the tissue has been repositioned rather than filled. The face continues to age, and weight changes, sun and smoking all shorten the result.

What patients say

Patient reviews from Google, names attached. 4.3 average across 67 reviews.

I had my first consultation with Dr. Tumi, and he was beyond fabulous. From the jump, he shook my hand and introduced himself to my daughter and I. He included her in the conversation and even had some laughs with her. This made the situation alot less vulnerable given the reason I was there. He is the second surgeon that I have met with, and wasn't going to be my last, until I decided he was the last. It is because of his honesty, integrity, authenticity and professionalism, that made my choice. I saw some comments in the reviews where people stated he made them feel uncomfortable while getting undressed and for me that did not happen. He was respectful of my space and was sure I was covered appropriately. I went to see him for a breat augmentation and Dr. Tumi did not think an augmentation would be required. I really appreciated that about him, because the first surgeon I met, insisted this procedure, despite me only wanting a lift with fat transfer. This is a huge cost savings for me, and more natural for my body type, and in my opinion. Dr. Tumi did not make me feel rushed with any questions and time was not ever an issue for him. He wanted to be sure I knew all that I needed. His office manager Karyn, was absolutely wonderful and easy to connect with. She took her time to discuss things that I did not think of and even called me over the weekend when I emailed her some more questions. This is above and beyond care. My surgery is April 20th and I know I am in good hands. I will follow this up with further reviews in the future and have no doubt it will be 5 stars across the board. One last thing... of all the reviews, I paid attention to the ones where the patients actually had surgery, not the ones who were disgruntled about the office staff or OHIP issues. After all, it is the surgeon we want precision with, isn't it? Thanks Karyn and Dr. Tumi, for making me comfortable and content.

The consultation

A consultation is an assessment and a conversation, and you are not committing to anything by having one.

  • Assessment of what is actually causing what you see
  • What can be done, what cannot, and what it involves
  • A written quote once the assessment is done

Frequently asked questions

Face Lift questions,
answered

The cost depends on the extent of the lift. It also depends on whether the neck or other procedures are done at the same time. For that reason the figure is quoted at the consultation. Not covered by OHIP. Financing is available through Beautifi, Medicard and Credit Medical.

Typically three to five hours. Combined with a neck lift or other procedures it runs longer.

A face lift is performed in an operating room under general anesthetic or deep sedation with local anesthetic. Dr. Tumi confirms which with you at the consultation.

Most people are back at desk work in about two weeks and exercising again at four. Bruising is largely gone by two to three weeks; the last of the swelling and the tight feeling settle over two to three months.

Less than most people expect. The face feels tight and numb rather than sore, and ordinary pain relief covers the first few days. Sharp or one-sided pain is not expected, and it is the reason to call.

Yes, and they are placed to be hidden: in the hairline, in the crease in front of the ear, around the earlobe and behind the ear. They are typically pink for a few months and fade to fine pale lines that hair and the folds of the ear cover.

Typically ten years or more. The face keeps aging, but from a better starting point.

The assessment is about which zone is actually bothering you. A face lift addresses the jawline and the folds beside the mouth. The neck, the eyelids and the surface of the skin are separate operations and separate treatments. People often arrive asking for one when they mean another. Health, weight and smoking then decide the timing.

Cosmetic procedures are not covered. Some functional and reconstructive work is considered differently and is discussed case by case.

Dr. Kamal Tumi performs all surgery at this practice, and he is the surgeon you meet at the consultation. You will not meet one surgeon and be operated on by another. ---
