What to expect

From consultation to final result

The stages below are typical for this procedure. Your own timeline is confirmed at the consultation.

Tap to flip

The first days

What is normal

Numbness in the treated area typically persists for two to six weeks and settles on its own.

The first two weeks

Getting back to normal

The treated area is usually red, swollen and tender afterwards. It can also feel numb, and some people get a tingling sensation. All of that is normal. It settles over the following days to weeks. Numbness often lasts longer than people expect. That is normal too.

The result

How long it lasts

The fat cells that are cleared do not come back. That is a real and permanent change to the number of fat cells in the treated area.

Patient reviews from Google, names attached. 4.3 average across 67 reviews.

I had my first consultation with Dr. Tumi, and he was beyond fabulous. From the jump, he shook my hand and introduced himself to my daughter and I. He included her in the conversation and even had some laughs with her. This made the situation alot less vulnerable given the reason I was there. He is the second surgeon that I have met with, and wasn't going to be my last, until I decided he was the last. It is because of his honesty, integrity, authenticity and professionalism, that made my choice. I saw some comments in the reviews where people stated he made them feel uncomfortable while getting undressed and for me that did not happen. He was respectful of my space and was sure I was covered appropriately. I went to see him for a breat augmentation and Dr. Tumi did not think an augmentation would be required. I really appreciated that about him, because the first surgeon I met, insisted this procedure, despite me only wanting a lift with fat transfer. This is a huge cost savings for me, and more natural for my body type, and in my opinion. Dr. Tumi did not make me feel rushed with any questions and time was not ever an issue for him. He wanted to be sure I knew all that I needed. His office manager Karyn, was absolutely wonderful and easy to connect with. She took her time to discuss things that I did not think of and even called me over the weekend when I emailed her some more questions. This is above and beyond care. My surgery is April 20th and I know I am in good hands. I will follow this up with further reviews in the future and have no doubt it will be 5 stars across the board. One last thing... of all the reviews, I paid attention to the ones where the patients actually had surgery, not the ones who were disgruntled about the office staff or OHIP issues. After all, it is the surgeon we want precision with, isn't it? Thanks Karyn and Dr. Tumi, for making me comfortable and content.

CoolSculpting, start to finish

Step 01 · Consultation

The consultation

It treats one problem: a pocket of fat that diet and exercise have not shifted. Most people who book it have one area in mind. They have usually been working on that area for a while.

Frequently asked questions

CoolSculpting questions,
answered

It is quoted at the consultation, per applicator. It depends on how many areas are treated and how many applicators each needs. It is not covered by OHIP, and Beautifi, Medicard and Credit Medical financing are available.

There is strong cold and a firm pulling sensation for the first few minutes, then the area numbs. Most people find the massage afterwards the least comfortable part. No anesthetic is used.

Results build gradually as the body clears the treated cells, over weeks rather than days. Typically the first change at about four weeks and the full result at two to three months.

Typically one to two sessions per area, decided at the review after the first.

The fat cells that are cleared do not return. The cells that remain can still enlarge, so the result holds as long as your weight does.

No. It reduces fat in a specific treated area. It is not a weight-loss treatment and should not be chosen as one.

No. If loose skin is the main concern, removing fat beneath it can make it more noticeable. Morpheus8 or a surgical option would be assessed instead.

No. You drive yourself home and return to normal activity the same day. Swelling, tenderness and numbness in the area are normal for a while afterwards.

The treatment is carried out by a member of the clinic's trained clinical team. The clinical direction for it comes from Dr. Kamal Tumi, a board-certified plastic surgeon, who decides at the consultation whether CoolSculpting is the right treatment for the area you want changed.

The usual requests are the lower abdomen, flanks, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, under the chin and beneath the bra line. Suitability is assessed in person.

These get compared constantly, usually by people trying to avoid surgery. They are genuinely different operations with different jobs. CoolSculpting treats a defined pocket without surgery, anesthetic or downtime. The reduction is partial rather than complete, and it builds gradually. The same area may need more than one session. It cannot address loose skin and it cannot reach deeper fat. Liposuction removes fat directly, in one procedure, with a much larger and more predictable reduction.

There is very little to do, which is most of the appeal. Eat beforehand and wear something comfortable that you do not mind the area of being exposed. Sessions are long enough that most people bring something to read or work on. You may be asked to avoid anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen for a few days beforehand, as some protocols do; this is confirmed when you book. You can drive yourself home and return to work the same day.
