What to expect

From consultation to final result

The stages below are typical for this procedure. Your own timeline is confirmed at the consultation.

The first week

What is normal

For most patients, a soft support bra is worn day and night for about six weeks. Underwire waits until Dr. Tumi gives the go-ahead.

Weeks two to six

Getting back to normal

Most patients are back at desk work in one to two weeks. Walking starts on the first day. Lifting, pushing and upper-body exercise wait four to six weeks, and then come back gradually.

The result

How long it lasts

The lift is long-lasting. It is not permanent in the sense of stopping time. Skin continues to age, and significant weight change or a further pregnancy can alter the result.

Who performs it

Assessed and performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon

Patients tell us the same thing in different words. Clothes sit differently than they used to. A bra does work it did not used to have to do. As our team hears it in consultations, what people actually say is "my breasts is saggy" and "I hate the way I look in pictures."

Dr. Kamal Tumi, M.D., F.R.C.S.(C), is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as a specialist in plastic surgery. He completed his specialist training at McMaster University and a plastic surgery fellowship at the University of Toronto. More than 28 years in practice, over 3,500 surgeries performed.

Consultant plastic surgeon at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie since 2004. A hospital appointment means credentials reviewed by peers and the ability to manage complications directly.

You will not meet one person at the consultation and find someone else in the room. In his own words: "I will not do a surgery on you if you do not need it."

What patients say

I had my first consultation with Dr. Tumi, and he was beyond fabulous. From the jump, he shook my hand and introduced himself to my daughter and I. He included her in the conversation and even had some laughs with her. This made the situation alot less vulnerable given the reason I was there. He is the second surgeon that I have met with, and wasn't going to be my last, until I decided he was the last. It is because of his honesty, integrity, authenticity and professionalism, that made my choice. I saw some comments in the reviews where people stated he made them feel uncomfortable while getting undressed and for me that did not happen. He was respectful of my space and was sure I was covered appropriately. I went to see him for a breat augmentation and Dr. Tumi did not think an augmentation would be required. I really appreciated that about him, because the first surgeon I met, insisted this procedure, despite me only wanting a lift with fat transfer. This is a huge cost savings for me, and more natural for my body type, and in my opinion. Dr. Tumi did not make me feel rushed with any questions and time was not ever an issue for him. He wanted to be sure I knew all that I needed. His office manager Karyn, was absolutely wonderful and easy to connect with. She took her time to discuss things that I did not think of and even called me over the weekend when I emailed her some more questions. This is above and beyond care. My surgery is April 20th and I know I am in good hands. I will follow this up with further reviews in the future and have no doubt it will be 5 stars across the board. One last thing... of all the reviews, I paid attention to the ones where the patients actually had surgery, not the ones who were disgruntled about the office staff or OHIP issues. After all, it is the surgeon we want precision with, isn't it? Thanks Karyn and Dr. Tumi, for making me comfortable and content.

I had a great experience with Dr. Tumi and Karyn throughout my entire surgical journey. They were both incredibly kind, patient, and always took the time to answer all of my questions. From my first consultation to my follow-up appointments, they made me feel comfortable, supported, and well cared for. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone considering.

Frequently asked questions

Breast Lift (Mastopexy) questions,
answered

A breast lift is quoted at the consultation. The number depends on how much lift is needed and on whether an implant or another procedure is combined with it. A breast lift is cosmetic surgery, so OHIP does not cover it. Beautifi, Medicard and Credit Medical financing are available, and your quote comes in writing.

Neither. A lift moves and reshapes the breast. It does not change how full it is. If you want to be fuller, that needs an implant or fat grafting alongside the lift. If you want to be smaller, that is a breast reduction.

They are the same operation. Mastopexy is the clinical term. Most people call it a breast lift, and plenty of people just call it a boob lift. Whichever words you use, it is the same procedure and the same quote.

Same answer as a breast lift, because it is the same operation. It is quoted at the consultation. The price moves with the amount of lift needed and with anything combined, such as an implant. OHIP does not cover it. Beautifi, Medicard and Credit Medical financing are available.

One to two weeks to desk work, four to six weeks to lifting and upper-body exercise. The shape softens and settles over three to six months.

Yes. A lift removes skin, and removing skin leaves scars. They follow a standard pattern and are placed where a bra and swimwear sit where possible. They fade, though how quickly varies from person to person. They are typically pink for a few months and fade over a year to eighteen months to pale lines. Dr. Tumi will show you the exact pattern for your lift at the consultation.

Many women can, because the nipple stays attached to its blood and duct supply in a standard lift. It cannot be guaranteed. If further pregnancy is likely, it is usually worth waiting.

Generally yes. Pregnancy and breastfeeding stretch the skin again and can undo the result. Dr. Tumi will discuss timing rather than talk you into surgery you would need repeating.

No. It is cosmetic surgery. Breast reduction is sometimes assessed differently where there are documented physical symptoms, which is a separate conversation.

Years. Skin keeps aging, and significant weight change or pregnancy can alter the result, but the reshaping itself does not undo.

If the concern is that they sit lower than they used to, a lift. If the concern is that they are less full than they used to be, volume. If both, a combined procedure. Dr. Tumi examines you at the consultation and tells you which of the three applies. ---

These get confused constantly, and choosing the wrong one is the most common source of disappointment. A breast lift removes stretched skin and raises the breast and nipple. Shape changes. Size does not. An implant adds volume. It fills the upper part of the breast. On its own it does not lift much. A lift with an implant does both, and is common where the breast has both lost volume and dropped, which is typical after breastfeeding. If the concern is "they used to sit higher", that is a lift. If it is "they used to be fuller", that is volume. If it is both, say so at the consultation and Dr.
